David, I'm all for acronyms, but I can't help thinking of East Germany when "Dance Dance Revolution" becomes DDR.

So I wasn't the only guy who played Missile Command on the Atari 2600 and pretended he was the President, solving world problems by destroying incoming missiles?

Okay, okay, I surrender! It was really an offhand comment, not meant to widen the generation gap. (Nobody in their right mind would call me a thirty-something, alas, except maybe socially.) I'm all for abbreviation diversity. I am a librarian, after all, and well versed in acronyms having multiple uses (RDA = recommended daily allowance? Not any more!). Glad to have given you guys (no stereotyping there) the chance to face off over your choice of game.

Uh oh. Sounds like I made a strategic error. Well, I can take my lumps, and try and fight the good fight.

That is a fine idea Steve, but I should warn you: I have an Atari 2600 emulator with ROMS for every game ever released. I use it too. Additionally I have a collection of about 70 2600 carts. So, yeah, bring it, son! You have spawn to dstract you from reliving gaming history! Mwa ha ha!

Frankly, I think all disagreements should be settled using the Atari 2600. Of course that may explain why I didn't go into politics. :)

Hey, I will own the DDR thing as my problem. And as an indicator of how old I am, as I clearly remember the fall of the Berlin Wall. And Billy Bragg ain't the heppest cultural reference, either. We're all in the same gang.

As for the rest of it, Michael, let's settle it on the playing field: you, me, and Missile Command on the Atari 2600. Now there is a video game!

Hee... I like the old man voice thing. <said in old man voice> "Ehhhh, sonnnny... I remember when I used to walk 5 miles in waist deep snow, all uphill both ways, to play pacman... and we liked it, too!"

Sonny, I remember the days when Steve Lawson was a respectful young upstart. Now look at him! He's all "I'm gonna make fun of this person" and "I think I'm better than this guy over here". Sheesh. Kids these days! Oh well, I gotta go play Mario Brothers on my Nintendo 64 now.

And another thing! (said in crotchety old man voice) DDR is widely accepted lingo. Snark: combinations of letters can mean more than one thing, amigos. Non-snark: Our audience can sort it out pretty painlessly. Want proof? A German (and Chinese?!) language library blog just used a pic I took at the DDR session last week on thier site:

I got DLK's back. Of course, I've got Steve and Ross's back too, but that's another comment for another day. :)
