Mel – answers to your questions:

“Justify the cost” – our Friends of the Library group gave the library $10,000 to start a techie toybox… and the idea came from our management team, so no justification was really needed.

“How is it going to be used?” I’ll post more on that later… but we plan to allow staff to play with all our new gadgets to get used to them, see what’s out there, see what patrons are using, and in some cases, to start creating content of their own (ie., camcorders).

Second Life projects – we have a couple of SL initiatives going on right now, both in the main grid and in the teen grid. Really, that day was SL heavy. Most days, not so much.

I find some of the things on this list surprising, so I’m curious: how were you able to justify the cost of the IPod Touch to your finacial department? How is it going to be used? It sounds like you get to spend a lot of time in Second Life. What projects are you working on in SL?
