We set up a group page for Ask a Librarian, and got a small response. Once we built the widget to be able to contact the online reference service from Facebook, we've gotten much more interest. MySpace is still out biggest social networking market, however.

http://apps.facebook.com/askalibrarian/
http://apps.facebook.com/libraryaal/
http://www.myspace.com/askalibrarianfl

Yes, I use links that users on facebook give to help with my work sometimes but the library services I have tried have not been that helpful. Can be better, really.

I've been joining lots of local groups, particularly ones that focus on "Things to do" in my town (Vancouver, WA). I've been posting video promos of a program I'm planning. So far, only a small response.
Otherwise, i use Facebook for professional networking, as my social network of choice.

We set up a group page for Ask a Librarian, and got a small response. Once we built the widget to be able to contact the online reference service from Facebook, we've gotten much more interest. MySpace is still out biggest social networking market, however.

I originally set up my Facebook account just to see what all the fuss was about. I was skeptical because I hated MySpace. But now I'm using Facebook on a daily basis for work and play. For work I have found it to be a great way to connect with staff who I know and a way to break the ice with staff who I have not met. With email you usually feel like you need to have a specific point or purpose. Facebook allows for more casual encounters and lets you see what staff are thinking and feeling in general.
