SocialMinder responded exactly appropriately to the reaction in this blog and others, I think:

http://www.socialminder.com/we-made-a-mistake-and-we-have-changed-our-approach/

The blog title says it all, but the details are interesting.

full disclosure: I own the offshore development company that coded most of the SocialMinder application.

full disclosure: I own the company that was hired to code SocialMinder.

That said, this is one of the sites my company has been hired to create that I regularly use and value. It's ideal for keeping up with the hundreds of prospective clients I meet at trade shows and such. It's more of a sales support tool than for keeping up with friends and family, but if you can use if for that, too, more power to you. I even made a sale because it reminded me contact someone I'd forgotten about who then asked if I had resources free to do a project for him.

There is a simple update button on the contact list for resetting a contact that you've just connected with by some means other than email, like a phone call or meeting at a conference.

I agree with Josh. Social Minder is on the bad list. For one thing you have to spam your friends to use it and then it reminds you to bug these people if you haven't emailed them (without reason just because you should stay in contact).

I've received at least 5 email invites for SocialMinder from friends who signed up for it, including one who swore she clicked not to send out email invites. I've been told it directs you to invite your contacts if you want to actually use the site, which is spamtastic. It means it's a site I will never, ever use.
