I suggest that everyone read "The Shock of the Old:technology and global history since 1900" by David Edgerton. Very thought provoking.

Going through this list, I was a little surprised at the items we still use in our library, because I had thought we were moving right along with the times in many ways. We are a small town library, and it is difficult to get everyone on board with new things, but we're working on it.
Landline phones.....we still have two of these in the library. (We'd have to because we bad cell phone use in our library!)
Floppy Disks.... I must admit that almost everyone here uses something else for storage, but we still have to have disk drives available in our computers for those that simply haven't made the switch.
Wristwatch...I was VERY surprised at this one. I don't know anyone yet who LIVES by their cellphone or computer. There are many times that am still out in the world where I need to know the time and don't have my cell with me. (Goes back to the landlines, maybe?)
Typewriter.....Okay. We even have people come up to the front desk when they hear someone typing on our one and only typewriter in the library. Some people have never heard one "live" before, and for others, it is a lost sound. (We'll have to wait until our one and only typewriter user retires in order to get rid of it. She is stubbornly stuck to using it.)
DVD's......We just got rid of the last of our VHS movies and now have switched to DVD's exclusively. Please don't make us switch again!!!

Connie ... our library still uses beepers (and will for probably a few more years still). At least, until we get a new voip phone system (that costs an arm and a leg... and I like my arms and legs).

A criminal is a person who stilll uses a beeper. My ex-husband is a very sneaky, ex-con, who is a convicted child molester. It is just simply amazing the manipulating games these monsters play. They also never sign up for a cell phone plan. Buy those cheap phones at walgreens, walmart & use the phone cards so they arent traced. Scum of the earth is the majority of beeping idiots left.
