Going to ALA 2010 in Washington, D. C.? If so, please consider participating in the BIGWIG Showcase! What is the BIGWIG Showcase? It’s a fun, highly interactive way to learn about a lot of topics at once! Here’s a list of the topics for this year’s Showcase:
Libraries MUST Have A New Electronic Content Access and Distribution Infrastructure (Michael Porter)
User Research on a Shoestring (Erin White and Susan Teague-Rector)
Information Overload & Personal Information Management (Bohyun Kim)
iPad and Tablet computers (David Lee King)
Teaching with Twitter (Ellen Filgo)
Qrcodes & Mobile Knowledge Networks (Bonnie Rosalen and Kelly Sattler)
And yes – I’m doing one … my presentation is on the Apple iPad and the new breed of tablet PCs that are coming out in the next couple of years. I show off the iPad and provide some examples of how to use one in a library setting.
What do YOU need to do? Two simple things:
Watch the video, and leave a comment if you want to
Attend the Showcase! I’ll talk briefly about the iPad, possibly even show one off … then we’ll chat – answer questions, debate the merits of the iPad, etc… and then you’ll be able to rotate off and talk to the other amazing presenters (listed above).
Simple stuff, huh? Make SURE to attend the BIGWIG Showcase – Monday, June 28, 2010 from 10:30am to Noon at the Renaissance Washington Grand BR South/Central. See you there!
Watch the screencast and make a comment – what do you think? What are you doing with Facebook Pages?
Show up at my table Monday, July 13, 10:30am. Instead of a formal presentation, show up having watched my screencast … and we’ll have a discussion about Facebook Pages!
So … this screencast is all about Facebook Pages. Here’s what I cover:
The basics of a Facebook Page – I describe what can be done with the Wall, the Info page, friending, status updates, events, discussion boards, and boxes.
Who uses your Facebook Page? I talk about the stats that come with a Facebook Page.
Facebook Apps – I briefly talk about the two apps my library has built
Connecting with customers – I talk about the ways a library can connect with customers using their Facebook Page.
I am one of the presenters/conversation starters at BIGWIG’s Social Software Showcase at ALA2008. What is the Social Software Showcase, you ask? From the website: “The general idea for the BIGWIG Showcase is to highlight up-to-date technological innovations for libraries, while giving as broad an access as possible to the content and the presenters.”
So – I’ve created a screencast. Here’s what you do – watch/listen to my presentation, and then you have a few different options:
Come sit at my table during the actual Showcase, and we’ll chat! Show up on Saturday, June 28th at the ALA Annual Convention in the Marriott Anaheim Gold Key Rooms I-III from 1:30-3:30pm.

Description: Engaging your library’s local community is NOT an easy task. Engaging your library’s local DIGITAL community is even harder. This presentation introduces the concept of the experience economy and mashes that up with digital community participation and engagement. What’s that get you? A headache! No, wait… that’s the wrong answer. It REALLY gets you … Community Experience, aka the Conversation Economy.
So watch/listen to my presentation (if the version above is too small for you, go here for a 640X480 version)… and then come experience the conversation economy in action at my table at BIGWIG’s Social Software Showcase! Hope to see you there!
